Now that the footy season is over we need something else to occupy our minds for a few months. Why not try dabbling in a wine auction or two?

Ebay is popular, but for a truly professional service you can do better. I've just put a bid in on this little beauty here. Hope to get a dozen bottles of quaffing wine for less than $50.00 delivered. And an interesting blend of sangiovese and shiraz as well.

Riesling at $2.50 per bottle

I've just snared six bottles of 2001 Riesling at auction for just $19.00. Add ten bucks for delivery and I have a nice drop without breaking the bank.

What Americans Drink

My friend Steve de Long has just posted an article which mentions the distribution of grape varieties used to make the wine Americans are consuming.

Loads of Cabernet and Chardonnay, just a smidgen of shiraz, Semillon doesn't get a look in, Pinot grigio is much more popular than in OZ and that 20% other category hides lots of diversity.
