The 2007 Vintage in Australia looks like one to forget for many wineries.
Chrismont in the King Valley have just announced that they will not be producing any wine for this vintage. Two heavy frosts in spring were followed by three bushfires around the vineyard. Elsewhere throughout Australia water shortages and frosts have devastated the crops. For example, my friends at
Ridgemill Estate have lost all of their Tempranillo to frost.
On a brighter note, you have a chance to savour just what the King valley can produce given reasonable weather. On Friday March 16 there is a special dinner as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
