Lost varieties of France
In Search of Lost Varieties, if my memory of French lessons serves me right.
Pierre et Philippe Aubry in Champagne have spent the past couple of decades reviving and preserving old varieties. Their winery is one of a few in champage who are using a few odd varieties permitted in the appelation, namely Pinot blanc, Petit Meslier, Arbanne, Pinot Gris and Marsanne. They are written up in a supplement to the May issue of Wine & Spirit (UK)
It is refreshing to note that even in the conservative French system a little variety is being maintained
Labels: champagne, marsanne, petit meslier, pinot gis
